Sir James Disney, May of Melbourne, opened a new playground in July 1951. The occasion was the centennary of the discovery of gold ion Clunes. Mrs Disney was born in Clunes. Sir James unveiled a small plaque on a concrete pillar. The play equipment included a slide, swings, roundabout and see-saws. Councillor Steart took the first slide, descenting into a sandpit.
